During the past ID@Xbox event celebration that took place in Madrid last week, we could talk with Agostino Simonetta, current responsible for ID@Xbox programme in our country. During our conversation we could ask him about progress for Xbox and specially about Xbox Play Anywhere, one of their main projects.
Everyone thinks that this Microsoft system seem suitable for the players. Thus, taking advantage of this atmosphere, we ask Simonetta about how Xbox Play Anywhere has been accepted in the studio and his answer was enlightening.
In general we are receiving many game requests for Xbox Play Anywhere programme. You know that there are over than 1000 current development games from ID@Xbox and seem that the independent studios have realised how incredible is to launch the same game to reach more people. They see this as when you launch an app on Google Play and the App Store, more public less effort.
If we are to talk about Xbox Play Anywhere, we wanted to know what third studios thought about this publication programme. Do they see risk or by contrast, they look favorably as independent studies do?
The first to adopt this programme were the independent studies. They look at the market from another perspective. The big advertisers and the studios wait to see what they can learn from them first. However, currently there are big proposals for Xbox Play Anywhere which are not developed by Microsoft Studios such as Shadow of War. Microsoft does not compel you to use Xbox Play Anywhere, simply the option is there for when you want to use it.
Overall the feeling I have is that there is no fear of losing money or sales when using Xbox Play Anywhere. Because if I ask you about how many people bought the same game for playing in two different platforms, at the end people just buy games for one platform. With Xbox Play Anywhere people can minimize their game development. However the studio has the ultimate decision.
Certainly the future seems promising for Xbox due to the alternatives that are being prepared by those of Redmond. Little by little Microsoft is laying the foundations for the future.
